Peace Festival / Festival de la Paix
College saint Boniface

Hand in Hand for Peace will partner with Save the Children and War Child Canada to
raise funds and awareness to support children and women in Sudan and Democratic
Republic of the Congo.
The Peace Festival will be covered by the Beauty of Africa photos exposition. Through this
exploration we aim to assist others understandings and expel the common misconception of
Africa being the “ Dark Continent”
The public will have the opportunity to see Africa as a “ Bright Continent ” revealed through the
natural beauty of its people, culture, wealth and country. Through this revealing experience we hope
to encourage others to invest in Africa, either a personal investment in the form of an unforgettable
holiday or of an economic nature. In this effort we aspire to create sustainable economic exchange and
growth that will enrich the lives of African people through grassroots economic independence.
The evening will begin with guest speakers from Global College, Save the Children, and War Child Canada.
There will also be a concert of African music performed by St Norbert College students followed by
live jazz, wine and cheese.

Past Events:
One of our organization’s earliest presentations was a graphic exposition at the University of
Winnipeg in October 2005, which focused on the tragedy of human rights violations in the Congo.
The exposition was viewed by more than 300 people.
Since that time, we have made more than 40 successful presentations in schools, churches and
universities, to educate Canadians about human rights violations based on our personal experiences.
As a result, we raised awareness and funds to support war-affected people.
- In October 2005
We raised money for “ Centre for Peace Building, Leadership and Good Governance in the Congo.”
- In April 2006
Hand in Hand for Peace raised money to support “ Institute for Community Peace Building and
Menno Simons College.” These funds helped the election observers travel to the Democratic
Republic of the Congo.
- In 2007
Hand in Hand for Peace continues to campaign through schools in Manitoba making presentations,
free of charge, regarding human rights violations.
- March 2008
Ishmael Beah "A Long Way Gone" A Story of Redemption and Hope
Mohandas Gandhi once said, “If we want real peace in this world, we shall have to begin with
the children." Hand in Hand for Peace aims to increase children’s awareness of the importance of
peace, both locally and globally, and encourage children to consider their role as global citizens. As
a result, Hand in Hand for Peace has developed a number of initiatives to build connections with
schools and school communities. We hope that you and your school will take part in these initiatives
to help empower and educate the children of Manitoba.

Change for Change Campaign
In Manitoba, what we consider “spare change” could help provide opportunities and change
lives for many individuals in developing countries. For this reason, Hand in Hand for Peace has
launched the Change for Change Campaign. Classrooms are encouraged to collect “spare change”
donations from students throughout the month of April. All of the proceeds collected will be
donated to War Child Canada and Save the Children Canada to help individuals affected by the
war in Sudan and the Congo. Think of the difference we could make in the lives of people affected
by war if each child in Manitoba donated one loonie to the “Change for Change” Campaign!
Deadline for Donations
All donations must be received by May 1, 2008. Please check back soon to see where cheques
can be mailed or, please phone (204) 237-9990 to arrange pick-up or delivery of collected funds.
Student Presentations
In support of Hand in Hand for Peace’s mandate of building awareness about the importance of
world peace and encouraging and children and youth to consider their roles as global citizens, we
are pleased to offer student presentations. Hand in Hand for Peace founder and chairperson Mr. Serge
Kaptegaine is an experienced public speaker who regularly visits schools to make presentations for students.
Drawing from his own personal experiences during the conflict in the Congo, Mr. Kaptegaine tailors his
presentation to specific audiences and grade levels with topics such as:
• Human Rights
• The Importance of Peace
• Students as Global Citizens
• Current Conflicts in Africa
Presentations are available in French and English at no set cost. An honorarium is usually
provided to help offset travel costs. If you would like more information, or to schedule a
presentation at your school from Mr. Kaptegaine, please contact him at (204) 952-7670 or handforpeace@gmail.com
